Pipeline leak detection systems are engineering systems used to detect leak of materials from the pipeline, in order to alert the operator to leak incidents.

In general Internal based LDS system are designed on combination of Acoustic and Compensated Mass Balance method in compliance with API standards. External based fiber optic sensing technique also being used as a method for pipeline leak detection.
